Tassajara Valley Ranches

Tassajara Valley Ranches

Country living just beyond Danville.

Tucked into the rolling hills along the eastern edge of Danville is one of the East Bay's best-kept secrets: the ranch properties of Tassajara Valley. This distinctive rural community offers something increasingly rare in the Bay Area—expansive acreage, equestrian properties, open pastures, and a quieter country lifestyle, all within reach of the conveniences of the San Ramon Valley, just ten minutes from Safeway, restaurants, coffee shops and direct access to Mt. Diablo State Park trails.

Tassajara Valley has a rich agricultural history. As Danville, Pleasanton, and Livermore expanded during the 1980s, the valley became an attractive destination for horse owners and families seeking room to enjoy rural living. Today, much of the area remains outside Danville's town limits, with surrounding grasslands, ranches, and watersheds benefiting from longstanding conservation efforts. The historic Tassajara Schoolhouse, dating to 1889, is a reminder of the valley's farming heritage.

One of the area's interesting quirks is that many ranches have Pleasanton, San Ramon, or Livermore mailing addresses, even though they are located in Contra Costa County. Many are also served by the highly regarded San Ramon Valley Unified School District, although individual school assignments should always be verified.

Ranch ownership offers a different way of life, and different responsibilities. Many properties rely on private wells, septic systems, and propane, making an understanding of rural property systems especially important. Acreage, water resources, equestrian facilities, and permitted land uses can also significantly influence property values.

Over the past several decades, The Bay Area Team has represented buyers and sellers in nearly 40 Tassajara Valley ranch transactions. That experience has given us a special appreciation for these unique properties and the lifestyle they offer.

For those seeking more space, privacy, and a connection to the land, Tassajara Valley is a remarkable place to call home.
